The Greenman-Schenkman Duo (Violin and Piano) is a dynamic new collaboration between two unique musicians brought together by their shared love for Jewish art music. Steven Greenman is a virtuoso violinist and composer steeped in the traditions of Ashkenazi Jewish music. Byron Schenkman is a chamber music pianist with an extensive background in historical performance. As a duo they bring warmth, passion, and poetry to the repertoire of early twentieth-century composers associated with the St. Petersburg Society for Jewish Folklore. The Violins of Hope celebrates the history of Jewish violins that were lovingly restored to be performed by artists today. This performance program honors this unique history by showing how music and art can transcend the atrocities of the past to create an everlasting testament to the creative human spirit.
